HGV Mechanic

Job Description

North West Recycling, Cumbria’s leading waste management supplier are actively recruiting for a HGV Fitter/Mechanic to join our expanding team.

We employ over 100 staff, operate over 25 vehicles, and deploy over 2500 skips and containers from our 30-acre purpose-built waste management, skip hire and recycling facility near Carlisle, in Cumbria.

Our aim is to fully close the circular journey of the waste produced, through our ability to manage the entire process – skip hire and business waste collection through to recycling and full material recovery.

The Role

The role will join the existing garage maintenance team working on HGV’s and Mobile Plant.

Working hours will be on a 3-weekly shift rotation basis, Monday to Friday, as follows:

• Week 1- Early shift – 6:00am to 2:30pm (plus Saturdays 6:00am to 2:30pm);
• Week 2- Day shift – 8:00am to 4:30pm;
• Week 3- Late shift – 2:30pm to 11:00pm.

Responsibilities and duties to include: –

• Good knowledge of Health and Safety requirements including complying with risk assessments, permit to works, LOLER, COSHH.
• Carrying out servicing and repair to a fleet of vehicles including: skip wagons, RORO trucks, artic walking floors and flat-bed trailers.
• Inspection and M.O.T preparation to VOSO/DVSA standards.
• Record keeping and working to schedules.

Qualifications and Skills

– NVQ Level 2 or equivalent (essential);

– Previous experience in the same or a similar role (essential);

– Basic Hydraulic and Electrical knowledge (essential);

– Fabrication and Welding experience (desirable);

– Class 1 or 2 LGV licence (desirable).

The Package

Competitive salary of £40,000 per annum.

40 hours per week on a 3-weekly shift pattern (48 hours every 1 in 3 weeks when working a Saturday).

20 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays. An additional days holiday for every year of service up to 10 days.
