The weight limits for each load size are as follows:
Mini Load: 100kg

Fire prevention and monitoring form part of NWR’s day-to-day site operations. Measures include waste acceptance inspections, thermal imaging cameras, stock control and preventative maintenance. These controls are used alongside site procedures to identify and manage potential fire risks.
Dust is managed through a combination of operational controls and site infrastructure. As part of the ongoing development of the Rockcliffe site, waste treatment activities covered by the environmental permit are moving indoors as of July 2026. Improvements to site roads and additional dust extraction are also being introduced to provide greater control over dust generated by site activities.
Waste is subject to acceptance inspections when it arrives at the site. These checks form part of NWR’s operational procedures and help ensure incoming waste is suitable for the activities permitted at the site.
Waste is managed and stored in accordance with NWR’s operating procedures and the conditions of its environmental permit. Stock control is also an important part of the site’s fire prevention measures, helping to manage the type, quantity and location of materials held on site.
NWR has a driver standards policy covering the operation of NWR vehicles. This includes requirements around speed and safe driving. NWR also extends these standards to visiting drivers using the site.
Collections take place within 5 working days of the end date you select on the calendar below. You won’t be charged for any extra days while we’re arranging pickup. NWR drivers follow a reduced speed limit as part of the company’s driver standards policy. The same requirement is extended to visiting drivers attending the site.
HGV movements form part of NWR’s normal site operations. NWR manages its own drivers through its driver standards policy and applies relevant requirements to visiting drivers. NWR has also expressed support for appropriate speed reduction and traffic-calming measures on surrounding roads.
NWR’s Rockcliffe site operates under an environmental permit regulated by the Environment Agency.

An environmental permit variation is a formal process used to change the conditions or activities covered by an existing environmental permit. In 2026 NWR applied for a variation to its permit to support the continued development of the Rockcliffe site. This included phased increases in capacity aligned to a raising bar of compliance.
NWR works with the Environment Agency in relation to the site’s environmental permit and regulatory requirements. As the site develops, NWR will continue to work with the Environment Agency on environmental controls, compliance and site standards.
NWR is required to operate within the conditions of its environmental permit. The Environment Agency is responsible for regulating compliance with the permit and has powers to take action where regulatory requirements are not met.
NWR is investing in infrastructure, technology and operational improvements at the site.
Current and proposed improvements include moving waste treatment activities indoors, improving site roads and introducing additional dust extraction. The development is intended to support a more technologically advanced waste management facility.
Proposed increases in capacity would be phased. The approach is that capacity follows performance, with the required compliance standards needing to be met at each stage before further capacity is introduced.

No. Hazardous waste must be collected, documented and disposed of separately under strict regulations — putting it in a general skip can result in compliance failures and fines for the site owner. We’ll arrange the correct collection route for you.
That depends on your volumes and site requirements. Larger or more active sites typically receive monthly or fortnightly visits; we can also arrange more frequent check-ins where your operation demands it.
Hazardous waste requires specialist handling, documentation (consignment notes) and a licensed disposal or treatment route, because of the risk it poses to people or the environment. General waste doesn’t carry the same legal requirements. If you’re not sure which category your waste falls into, we can advise.
We source appropriate treatment, recycling, or licensed incineration outlets for every material we collect. We always pursue the most sustainable route available — recycling and reuse first, incineration only where necessary.
Skips can be dropped on a private property such as your garden or drive, or on the road outside your house.
North West Recycling offer a wait and load service, where the driver will wait while you load the skip.
Yes. A permit is required from the council. There is a small charge for the skip to be placed on the road. We would be happy to arrange a skip permit for you.
Skip vehicle sizes can vary a little but generally 2.75 metres or 9 feet will accommodate the width of the delivering vehicle. If your drive cannot accommodate this or there are other access issues then contact us and we will suggest an alternative. Please note that skips (especially when full) can be heavy and any damage potentially incurred is at your own risk.
Skips need to be level loaded – any oversized items may be removed to make safe the load. All of our skips are sheeted before removal. Overloaded skips cannot be safely or legally removed. Additional charges may be incurred for over-filled skips.
Customers are able to keep our skips for up to 14 days, or 2 months if a trade account is opened. If you do not call for a removal/exchange by the end of this period, an additional fee of £2 + VAT (skips) or £5 + VAT (ROROs) per extra day will apply.

We prefer 24 hours’ notice. However, if you call us early we can offer same day service for Carlisle CA1, CA2 and CA3 areas. For people who have a tight schedule, we will do out utmost to work around your requirements.
Skips are taken back to our state of the art fully licensed Waste Materials Recycling Facility where we divert 100% of waste from landfill. Where possible, any residual waste processed and sent to waste from energy as an SRF (solid recovered fuel) product. Hazardous waste is disposed of at compliant hazardous waste disposal sites.
