Business Waste FAQs.

  • Will we have an account manager?

Not only will you have an account manager, but you’ll be able to call their mobile 24/7!

  • What wheelie bins do NWR offer?

Our colour coded bin system is fantastic, the different coloured lids make it really easy to segregate waste.
General Waste has a yellow lid, available in 360L, 600L and 1100L.
Mixed Recycling has a Blue lid, available in 360L, 600L and 1100L.
Food Waste has a red lid, available in 240L.
Glass has a green lid, available 240L.
We can also offer 45L office bins for each colour, making it even simpler for your business to remain compliant with waste legislation!

  • How quickly can you collect waste?

North West Recycling offers same-day on-demand waste collection for businesses across Carlisle and North Cumbria*. Call us on 01228 672999 or use the form below.

  • Do you offer same day waste removal?

Yes, we can offer same day waste removal on-demand.

  • What waste types do you collect?

We collect a wide range — general waste, mixed recycling, food waste, hazardous waste, asbestos, WEEE electrical waste, confidential waste and more. If you’re unsure whether we can collect your waste type, just call us.

  • Is documentation provided?

All of our services including On-Demand Waste Collection are fully compliant and we provide documentation such as Duty of Cares and Waste Transfer Notes where required.

  • Do you serve businesses only?

Our On-Demand Waste Collection service is primarily designed for businesses that need fast, flexible waste removal, including same-day or emergency collections. However, we can also arrange quick waste collections for domestic customers when required. If you have bulky household items, renovation waste or general rubbish that needs removing quickly, our team can organise a convenient collection and ensure everything is disposed of responsibly.

  • Will you handle all the documentation for me?

Yes. We prepare consignment notes and labels on your behalf, and arrange for them to be signed where required. You receive your copies — we deal with the rest.

  • What if I’m not sure whether my waste is hazardous?

Give us a call or fill in our contact form. We can advise on whether your materials classify as hazardous, what the correct disposal route is, and what documentation you’ll need. There’s no charge for a conversation.

  • Do you offer rebates on any hazardous materials?

In some cases, yes. Certain recycled oils, batteries, and solvents may attract a rebate depending on volume and material quality. We’ll let you know at the point of survey whether this applies to your waste stream.

  • How often will you collect?

That depends on your volumes and site requirements. Larger or more active sites typically receive monthly or fortnightly visits; we can also arrange more frequent check-ins where your operation demands it.

  • What happens to my hazardous waste once it’s collected?

We source appropriate treatment, recycling, or licensed incineration outlets for every material we collect. We always pursue the most sustainable route available — recycling and reuse first, incineration only where necessary.

  • What counts as hazardous waste?

Anything that could harm people, property or the environment if handled incorrectly — common examples include chemicals, oils, asbestos, batteries, WEEE and clinical waste. If you’re unsure, we can help you classify it correctly.

  • How much does hazardous waste collection cost?

It depends on the material, the volume, and the treatment route required. We’ll assess your waste and give you a clear, upfront price before any work begins — no surprises.

  • Can hazardous waste go in a skip?

No. Hazardous waste must be collected, documented and disposed of separately under strict regulations — putting it in a general skip can result in compliance failures and fines for the site owner. We’ll arrange the correct collection route for you.

  • What’s the difference between hazardous and general business waste?

Hazardous waste requires specialist handling, documentation (consignment notes) and a licensed disposal or treatment route, because of the risk it poses to people or the environment. General waste doesn’t carry the same legal requirements. If you’re not sure which category your waste falls into, we can advise.
