North West Recycling, Cumbria’s leading waste management supplier are actively recruiting for an Assistant Accountant to join our finance team.

We employ over 100 staff, operate over 25 vehicles, and deploy over 2500 skips and containers from our 30-acre purpose-built waste management, skip hire and recycling facility near Carlisle, in Cumbria.

As a family run business, we are committed to helping our customers and partners to better, more sustainably manage their waste. Our aim is to fully close the circular journey of the waste produced, through our ability to manage the entire process – skip hire and business waste collection through to recycling and full material recovery.

The Role

To provide a professional finance function for the Company.

We are entering into an exciting phase for the business, with continued growth and the on-boarding of new recycling capability and process innovation.

There will be scope and support for an ambitious candidate to develop and progress with NWR.

Responsibilities and duties to include: –

  • Accountancy support: Journal input, bank reconciliations, maintenance of monthly spreadsheets;
  • Supporting the Management Accountant in the preparation of detailed monthly management accounts and balance sheet, including balance sheet reconciliations;
  • Assistance with cash flow preparation;
  • Supplier payment runs;
  • Barclays funding reconciliation;
  • Support with producing weekly results;
  • Support with weekly monitoring and reporting on progress against KPIs;
  • Fixed asset control;
  • Assistance with producing financial analysis;
  • Quarterly VAT return preparation;
  • Government returns preparation;
  • Maintenance of Sage data.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Previous experience in Financial/Management Accounting (essential);
  • Hold an AAT accounting qualification or be working towards gaining an accounting qualification (ACMA/ACCA/ACA (essential);
  • Proficient IT skills including the use of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel (strong Excel knowledge essential) and Outlook (essential);
  • Experience with accountancy software- Sage 50 Accounts (desirable);
  • Strong communication skills with ability to engage with a range of stakeholders throughout the business (essential);
  • Team player with the ability to build and maintain effective internal and external working relationships (essential);
  • Good organisational skills (essential).

The Package

Competitive salary depending on experience

Full time hours 37.5 per week (flexible working will be considered)

20 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays. Additional days holiday for every year of service up to an extra 10 days.

Onsite parking & cycle to work scheme available.

Study package available (for professional Accountancy Qualification)

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
