Job Title: HGV/Garage Fitter & Mechanic

Contract: Permanent

Reports to: Transport Manager

Hours: 4 on/4 off shift pattern of days and nights (12 hour shifts)

This job description should be read in conjunction with Company Policies and the individual contract of employment.

Purpose of the post:

To ensure continued efficient, cost effective, safe and environmentally considerate maintenance of the HGV fleet through servicing and reactive work.

Main Responsibilities:

· Inspection and maintenance of the Company fleet including: skip wagons, RORO trucks, artic walking floors and flat-bed trailers;

· To carry out servicing in accordance with schedules, and repairs as required to the fleet of vehicles;

· Inspection and MOT preparation to VOSO/DVSA standards;

· To prioritise reactive work to ensure production continues;

· To contribute to and conduct project work to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the fleet maintenance process;

· To complete work permits/point of work risk assessments/safe systems of work as required and ensure any work conducted is in accordance with these as well as complying with LOLER and COSHH;

· To record maintenance activities undertaken including documenting the use of parts, consumables and labour;

· To provide Mobile Plant maintenance/repairs as required;

· To contribute to the development of ways of measuring and improving fleet maintenance activities with continuous improvement;

· Keep line manager up to date with issues to allow for continual development to ensure excellent service is maintained;

· Be an efficient and productive member of the team. Take direction to facilitate the aims and development of the Company;

· Working effectively and safely with members of operations and external contractors;

· Participate in building and maintaining a strong health and safety culture within the organisation and people;

· Attend training and develop relevant knowledge, techniques and skills as required;

· Adhere to Company policies and procedures at all times in particular the Company’s Health and Safety policy.

This job description is subject to change in line with Company development and business need. Changes will be discussed with the postholder as and when required.

Person Specification:

· NVQ level 2 or equivalent (essential);

· Previous experience in a HGV maintenance role (essential);

· Basic hydraulic and electrical knowledge (essential);

· Good knowledge of health and safety requirements including complying with risk assessments, permits of work, LOLER, COSHH (essential);

· Fabrication and welding experience (desirable);

· Class 1 or 2 LGV licence (Essential)

· Experience of record keeping and working to schedules (essential);

· Good organisational time management skills (essential);

· Good verbal and written skills- able to communicate at all levels (essential).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £40,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
